school for Kindergarten – 5th grade students. Re-
port cards for grades K-5 will be mailed out
the week of June 1st. Students must make pay-
ments for lunches, lost library books, and dam-
aged or lost textbooks, etc. before they will re-
ceive their report card. If you have any ques-
tions about the last day of school, please contact
your child’s teacher or the office.
Principal’s News and Notes
It’s hard to believe we will be wrapping up the year soon. It has been a great year at Longfellow and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the
parents and family members of our Longfellow students for all your help and support throughout the year. Without a positive working relationship between home and school, many of the tasks and goals we set could not be met. Parents are so influential in the success of students in school. We have them such a short time and if children see parents supporting teachers, and partnerships working together they are more likely to achieve.
I would especially like to take this opportunity to thank the Longfellow PTO for all they have done this year. The amount of time and money given to the students
and staff is overwhelming and it is hard to express the appreciation of all the staff. Special thanks to those involved with the Playground Improvement Project. Special thanks goes out to the officers and board members of the PTO.
Transfers
Parents of students currently attending Longfellow School or attending another Hastings elementary school on a transfer should complete a transfer form for the 2009-10 school year. All current transfers expire at the end of the school year. These are the transfers requested
from one elementary school to another within the district. This does not include students that are option-in students. Those are continuous unless a parent has
requested to transfer to another elementary school than was assigned to them at the time of their option enrollment. Please return the transfer forms we mailed to your home, preferably by the end of the school
year. If you didn’t receive one, please contact the office (461-7584).
Moving?
If any Longfellow families are moving over the summer and do not plan to be here next year, please let the office
know as soon as possible. This makes is easier to plan for next year to set classes and be aware of changes in class size for programming and personnel changes.
Please call the office at 461-7584.
Title I Preschool
Enrollment and Screening
If any families are interested in the Hastings Public Schools preschool program children must be screened. HPS will hold their Title I screening on May 1st and 2nd Please contact Student Services at 461-7578 to make an appointment.
Lost and Found
We have quite a few items in the lost and found box by the office. We will put them out on a table in the hall.
Students and parents should check for anything they maybe missing. Any items not claimed will be donated to the Goodwill. If your child has borrowed clothing
items from the office, please wash and return them to school so we will be ready for next year’s lit-
tle emergencies.
Invention Convention
Several Longfellow students participated in the ESU# 9 Invention Convention held at the Imperial Mall on April 23. Participating students included Jennifer Boeve,
Sophia Conant, Macie Clawson, Katie Fast, Breanna Flukey, Grace Hueske, and Erica Thompson. Students from all over Adams County enter their inventions. Good luck Longfellow students!

PTO Page
It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over again! I would like to thank everyone who helped with the fundraising and school functions this year. We could not have had the success we did without your help. We raised a lot of money again this year for the classrooms ($2600) and the playground ($21000). We are looking forward to the changes we will be able to make to the playground this summer while the children are home enjoying the sunshine. We plan to remove the gravel from the soccer fields and replace it will fresh dirt, a sprinkler system and new green sod. We hope to also purchase the soccer goals, baseball diamond and bushes. Thank you again for your
dedicated fundraising, it has allowed us to continue the project on schedule. We hope the finish the fundraising by the end of the year. If this is not accomplished we will use part of our 2009-2010 fundraising for the outdoor classroom. All of us from the Longfellow PTO wish you an enjoyable and safe
summer!!!

On behave of the Longfellow PTO I would like to thank all of the Parents and Longfellow Staff who volunteered at the Carnival. Our students had a wonderful time and it could not have happened without your help. The Carnival is not considered a fundraiser, but because of your generosity, we made a profit of $630.00 that will be used for the school.
Have a wonderful summer and thank you for supporting Longfellow school!
